Your appliances are supplied with manuals and warranties. Store all paperwork now before it gets lost. And record or return any correspondence necessary for registration.
If an electrical appliance doesn’t work, first check to see that it’s plugged in any circuit breakers aren’t tripped.
If a gas appliance doesn’t work, ensure the pilot light is on. If you small gas, or think there may be a leak, shut off the master gas valve (near the meter) and call the gas company.
Louvered openings in a pitched roof should always be clear and unobstructed. Soffit or ridge vents they should also always be clear.
Never clean finished surfaces with harsh abrasives. Wood cabinets may be cleaned with a damp cloth & warm water. Silicone spray lubricant on drawers and hinges can help maintain smooth operation.
Ceramic tile floors are easily cleaned with a moist cloth and wet mop. Grout can be cleaned with a brush and mild cleanser. Grout sealer is advised for stain resistance.
Exterior caulking will separate and deteriorate over time. Avoid leaks and drafts by inspecting caulking periodically and replacing as soon as necessary.
Wood will expand and contract as weather and interior climate changes. Consult manufacturer or installer for specific maintenance recommendations.
A gentle washing and hosing annually should suffice as maintenance. It is seldom necessary to remove window screens in the winter.
Every springtime, inspect the sides of your footing walls for remains of insects, or the earthen tubes termites build to access the wood above foundations. If you suspect the presence of termites, consult a professional exterminator immediately.
